A district centre on the road to Tolbachik and Klyuchevskaya group — a base for volcano routes without helicopters.
Milkovo Settlement
Milkovo is a major village in central Kamchatka where roads to Tolbachik, Klyuchevskaya and Kamen converge. Fuel, shops, a hotel and mobile signal — rare in the interior. Not a tourist sight itself but a supply hub for lava-field and Dead Forest expeditions. Local guides and 4WD owners often base here. Climate is drier and colder than the coast; in winter Milkovo is a snowmobile trail hub. In summer it is the start of dirt roads to Kozyrevsk and Tolbachik. Stop in Milkovo to plan routes, buy provisions and sleep before tundra drives — a working base, not a museum.
How to get there
~300 km from Petropavlovsk on paved and dirt roads via Esso or northern passes.
Best season
June–September for volcano drives; winter for snowmobiles
