Multinskiye Lakes

Multinskiye Lakes are a group of high lakes in the upper Multa valley on the north slope of Катуньsky Belok. Lower, middle, and upper lakes are linked by trails of varying difficulty; water is cold and clear, shores rocky and grassy. Routes usually start from Multa village or lodges in the lower valley, then on foot with altitude gain. Popular with trekkers as an alternative to busier Chuysky tract spots — more horses, tents, and stars than cafés. Views of snowy Belok peaks from upper lakes are a classic Altai image, reached only after several days. Fords and steep climbs appear; stones are slick after rain. Infrastructure is limited to field camps and entry-valley cabins. Lakeside nights are in tents; fire and litter rules are strict in protected nature zones. Suited to hikers ready for multi-day trips with supplies after day hikes. Allow acclimatisation and check forecasts — fog and snow are possible in summer at altitude.
