Remote village on the upper Omolon — a symbol of Kolyma gold and a base for river routes into taiga.

Region: Magadan OblastCoordinates: 61°41′N 143°31′E

Omolon Village

Omolon stands on the namesake river in larch taiga and tundra, far from the Magadan highway. Known for gold mining and harsh climate — getting here is part of the journey. Summer access by seasonal road from Susuman or river transport with a local operator; winter by winter road. The travel window is short and depends on rain, flood and ice conditions. Small population, basic services — modest shop, no hotel, arranged stay or camping. Power and connectivity exist but do not expect stable internet. The Omolon River attracts anglers; abandoned prospectors' camps nearby. Respect private plots and working equipment — do not enter without permission. Best as part of a river or combined upper-Kolyma route, not a day trip from Magadan. Carry several days' food.

How to get there

From Susuman by seasonal road or river with a local operator.

Best season
