Opala Volcano
Opala is among Kamchatka's largest volcanoes at ~2475 m. Its ~10 km caldera formed in a major eruption ~3000 years ago; a lake lies on the caldera floor. The volcano stands in south-west Kamchatka, far from Klyuchevskaya and Tolbachik routes. Access is by helicopter or a hard multi-day taiga trek — not a day trip. Opala lies within protected lands with stricter rules than volcanoes near Petropavlovsk. It suits visitors who know the central group and want a different scale of landscape. The summit is often clouded; hiking needs navigation skills and camping. An expedition target, not a weekend stroll.
