Palkino and Lakes

Palkino is the administrative centre of Palkino District in the oblast west, near the Estonian border. Lakes, mixed forest and rural roads surround it. Small lakes with sandy and grassy shores; locals fish and swim in summer. Few tourist bases — some guest houses and camp sites without resort scale. Linked to border trade and forestry. Calm mood; no excursion buses from Pskov. Combine with Smolin Monastery and roads toward Izborsk — the oblast's western loop. Many midges and ticks; carry ID for possible border checks.
