Phanagoria Museum-Reserve

The State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Phanagoria” studies and presents the heritage of ancient Phanagoria — one of the largest Greek colonies on the Taman Peninsula and the second (Asiatic) capital of the Bosporan Kingdom beside Panticapaeum. The hillfort lies by today’s Sennoy settlement in Temryuk District; the museum address is Antichnaya St. 1. Do not confuse the museum-reserve with the wine company of the same name in the same settlement. Phanagoria was founded in the 6th century BCE and later passed through Bosporan, late antique and early medieval phases, including a period in the Khazar orbit. Modern excavations (including underwater work on the submerged part) yield finds shown in the museum. Check excursion hours on phanagoria-museum.ru (often Tue–Sun). On a Taman itinerary Phanagoria is a serious archaeological stop beyond beaches and tastings — allow time for the museum and follow on-site path rules.

How to get there

Sennoy, Temryuk District, Antichnaya St. 1. By car across the Taman Peninsula (easy to pair with Taman/Temryuk); transit to Sennoy with changes.

Best season

April to October; museum by reserve hours
