Platonovka Steppe Reserve
Platonovka village in Tambovsky District lies on the steppe–forest-steppe boundary — tracts of typical Chernozem steppe with feather grass, fescue and steppe bellflowers survive. Parts are protected as a regional nature complex. Steppe is not a park with alleys but open land with harsh microclimate: hot and windy in summer, frosty and snowy in winter. Spring and early summer bring bloom — yellow and purple patches against dark Chernozem. Access is regulated: do not pick plants, light fires or leave marked trails. A route for botanists and steppe landscape lovers, not loud picnics. Platonovka suits a short stop between Tambov (~30 km) and Kotovsk (~25 km). Allow one to two hours for walking and photos. Combine with Umets chalk outcrop (~40 km) and Sosnovka forest park (~35 km) — steppe, chalk and pine forest in one day.
