Resurrection Cathedral (Pochep)

Resurrection Cathedral dominates historic Pochep on October Square. Built from 1765 to 1771 in baroque style; five cupolas and a tall bell tower shape the skyline. Pochep stands on the Pochepka River in the Desna basin; first written mention dates to 1501. A district administration operated here in the 18th century; the town retains stone building from that period. The cathedral survived revolution and Soviet times; restored post-war and active as an Orthodox church. Interior includes iconostasis and historic icons. October Square is ringed by 19th–early 20th-century buildings; a walk from the cathedral to the Pochepka embankment suits city exploration. Pochep lies on the Bryansk–Smolensk road — a convenient stop between Novozybkov and the oblast centre.
