Polotnyany Zavod Pushkin Estate

Polotnyany Zavod village in Dzerzhinsky District is tied to the Pushkin family: from the late 18th century Pushkin's mother Nadezhda Osipovna owned a linen manufactory and estate on a high Oka bank. After her remarriage the house passed to the Lanskys. The Polotnyany Zavod museum-reserve runs tours of the manor, park and outbuildings. Interiors were restored from 19th-century documents; a hall covers Alexander Pushkin's childhood and visits to the estate. Not only literary but industrial history: flax and cloth gave the settlement its name. From the high bank you get a wide Oka floodplain panorama — one of the best views near Kaluga. Combine with Borovsk (~35 km) and Suvorov's Konchanskoye estate (~25 km) for an Oka and Protva day. Allow two to three hours with a park walk. Seasonal hours; some buildings may close in winter. Compact village — museum parking is tight on school trip days. Steep Oka bank; unaccompanied descent is not recommended. Respect fences and do not pick plants in the park.
