A large forest lake in central Karelia — quiet water and uncrowded shores favoured by local anglers.
Por-Ozero Lake
Por-Ozero lies in Muezersky District; surface ~40 km². Indented shores, mixed forest and marsh fringe. Popular with Karelian anglers — pike, perch, bream and others. Sparse tourist infrastructure; partly dirt roads. Rarely in Petrozavodsk brochures — which keeps it a working northern lake, not a coach-tour showcase. Suits a short fishing trip or stopover crossing central Karelia — respect private shore plots.
How to get there
West from Petrozavodsk via Muezersky to dirt tracks toward lake bays.
Best season
June–September for fishing and boats; winter for ice fishing
