Prokhorovskoye Field

Prokhorovskoye Field State Military-Historical Museum-Reserve lies in Belgorod District at Prokhorovka village. On 12 July 1943 one of the largest tank battles of the Great Patriotic War unfolded here — armour clashing on open steppe. The site includes the Triumph memorial complex, Church of St Andrew the First-Called, exhibition halls and an open-air display of equipment. The museum is part of the Kursk Bulge museum-reserve system. Prokhorovskoye Field is a landscape point as well as a military one: steppe expanses, chalk hills on the horizon, quiet rural roads. Allow half a day for halls, memorials and the church. Memorial events mark the battle anniversary each July. On holiday dates parking and roads are crowded — arrive early. Combine with Belgorod (~70 km) or chalk outcrops to the south for a joint history and geology route. Prokhorovskoye Field is an open-air museum, not a theme park — guides explain July 1943 scale. Open steppe in summer needs water; 9 May draws crowds.
