Oldenburg Palace in Ramon

The Oldenburg princes' palace in Ramon settlement, Ramonsky District, is one of Voronezh Oblast's main architectural monuments. Built in Neo-Gothic in the late 19th century for a dynasty linked to the imperial house; an English-style park with ponds and alleys adjoins it. After the revolution the palace served various uses; today it houses a museum and cultural centre. Interiors are partly restored; displays cover the Oldenburg family, Ramon history and famous Ramon glass production. Ramon crystal is a separate chapter: under the princes glassmaking developed and supplied the court. Museum halls and souvenir shops recall the craft. The park is open for walks: old trees, ponds, bridges. Alleys are especially scenic in spring and autumn; winter follows museum hours, park walks depend on weather. Nearby chalk hills and quarries gave the name "Ramon chalk hills". Route as palace — park — natural outcrops. Ramon is ~30 km north of Voronezh; good for a half-day trip. Weekend and event parking fills quickly.
