Rossosh Chalk Cliffs

Rossosh lies at forest-steppe and steppe border; nearby chalk outcrops show white walls, ravines and valleys of Upper Cretaceous deposits — a southwest oblast geological motif. Chalk cliffs are not one ticketed reserve; access via field roads and ravine trails. Geologists and nature lovers come for photos, fossil shells and steppe and chalk-loving flora. Rossosh is a district centre with 19th-century history and farm economy. Start routes from town: fuel, supplies, local museum info. Open slopes are hot with little shade in summer; spring and autumn give softer light and steppe grass against white chalk. After rain slopes slip and crumble — stay back from ledges. Combine with Boguchar (~80 km) or Buturlinovka chalk hills (~120 km) — oblast chalk belt route. Do not damage outcrops or litter: chalk is fragile and steppe is fire-prone in dry wind.
