Rylsk Chalk Cliffs

Near Rylsk, chalk beds outcrop on Seim valley slopes as white ledges and niches. The same geological complex as southern “chalk hills” but paired with the river and hillfort. Cliffs are visible from the opposite bank and Ivan Rylsky hillfort. Not equipped for climbing; chalk is soft and unsuitable for sport routes. Best angles from the Seim path and hillfort plateau at sunset when warm light emphasises white chalk. Hillfort — chalk cliffs — embankment is the basic one-day Rylsk plan without museums or fine dining. Rylsk chalk scarps read from the hillfort and Seim paths — best at sunset. Chalk is soft, not for climbing; chain hillfort, embankment and scarp in one walking half-day.
