Sampur State Nature Reserve — protected steppe with feather grass and rare flora species.
Sampur Steppe Reserve
Sampur State Nature Reserve was created to protect typical steppe ecosystems of Tambov Oblast — feather-grass and fescue communities, rare plants and steppe-zone animals. The territory is protected with access rules and visit restrictions. Reserve sectors preserve landscape long ploughed elsewhere: feather grass, fescue, steppe bellflowers and berry shrubs. Spring bloom; autumn gold before snow. Not a theme park but a field route for botanists and lovers of quiet. Visits require coordination with reserve staff or marked eco-trails. Do not pick plants, light fires or leave trails — fines apply. Combine Sampur with Staroyuryevo (~35 km) and Uvarovo (~90 km) for western steppe and salt lakes. Best in May–June for flowering and September for golden steppe. Summer is hot with no shade — water, hat and repellent required.
