Cliff art at Sandyk Mountain in the Sayan foothills — cap of a southern archaeology route.
Sandyk Mountain Petroglyphs
Sandyk Mountain and nearby cliffs in Tashtyp hold petroglyphs of ancient Sayan inhabitants — panels on several outcrops, some hard to reach. Dirt roads from Tashtyp, then uphill on foot; often combined with Salbak Khayaa in one expedition. Light cliffs against dark taiga; slippery rock after rain; bears and ticks as usual taiga risks. Local guides or navigation help — ask Tashtyp residents for panel locations. No litter; do not move stones at panels.
How to get there
Unpaved roads from Tashtyp and hike to Sandyk cliffs.
Best season
July–August
