Seim Valley near Rylsk

The Seim is a left tributary of the Desna and a major water feature of south-west Kursk Oblast. Near Rylsk it forms a deep valley with terraces up to 30 m high where hillforts and later the town stood. Both banks offer views of floodplain, meadows and chalk outcrops. Spring flood raises levels; in summer locals fish and rest on the banks. The valley links the Ivan Rylsky hillfort, chalk cliffs and Rylsk's historic fabric. It suits walking or cycling along embankments and cuts, not rafting — the Seim is shallow. Best views from western and eastern outskirts and the hillfort.
