Sevsk Chalk Outcrops

Sevsk is one of Bryansk Oblast's oldest towns on the Seva River; nearby chalk outcrops and steppe plots form the Sevskie Sklony natural complex. Chalk beds surface on steep ravine slopes; soil is poor and calcareous. Typical steppe chalk-lovers grow here: thyme, cinquefoil, feather grass. Sevskie Sklony is a regional nature monument; not fully fenced but damaging outcrops and picking rare plants is forbidden. Sevsk retains historic building and old churches; combine slopes with a town walk. Chalk crumbles after rain — stay back from cliff edges.
