Shara-Nur Lake

Shara-Nur (Tuv. Saryg-khöl) is a salt lake in southern Tes-Khemsky kozhuun: about 5 km², up to 5 km long, 0.8–1.3 km wide, elevation 895.5 m. Salinity near 45 ‰; the Bulak stream enters from the north bank. The lake sits 5 km north of Mongolia, 50 km south-west of Samagaltay and 40 km east of Erzin. Agar-Dag-Taiga ridge dominates from the north-west — steppe water against mountains reads clearly in photos. Mineral springs emerge on the south bank; shores are partly boggy. Not a resort belt but a little-visited Ubsunur Hollow stop for self-sufficient travel. Fit naturally into a cluster with Tore-Khol and Dus-Khol lakes — all within one or two days of Erzin or Samagaltay. Watch border rules and dust storms.
