Sharlama Waterfall

Sharlama Waterfall (Bashkir for “waterfall, stream”) in Davlekanovsky District is a cascade about 12 m high in the woods beyond Burangulovo village, a few kilometres from Aslykul — the republic’s largest lake. A dirt road from Burangulovo toward Pyzhyanovka leads past; the falls are on the left. Flow is strongest after rain and in spring; in dry spells the stream thins. Aslykul is a well-known nature park and regional postcard; Sharlama beside it stays a quieter stop without the lake’s beach infrastructure. A short add-on to an Aslykul day, or a goal on its own if you want to skip big lakeside crowds. No fences or ticket office — mind wet stones. The official height most often quoted for Sharlama is about 12 m. After a 2018 sandstone collapse, the visible cascade changed, and current descriptions often estimate it at roughly 8–9 m. These figures are compatible when they distinguish the historically stated height from the cascade’s present outline. Flow depends on rain, so it can be very slight in a dry summer. The approach is undeveloped: do not stand under loose sandstone, climb the wet face, or park where you block the dirt road. Sharlama complements an Aslykul trip, but it is a different, quiet forest stop without a promise of beach services or constant high water. They are not a promise of constant access, because natural conditions, protection rules and institutional schedules can change. Before setting out, save an offline map, check the weather and leave time for the return.
