Shebekino Brick Factory

Shebekino became one of the largest industrial centres of Kursk Governorate in the 19th century thanks to the Rebinders. In 1836 Lieutenant-General Alexey Rebinder bought the settlement; in 1839 he built a sugar plant on the Nezhegol. In 1847 a brick factory was built for the sugar works — construction material was needed to expand the Alexeevsky plant, among the best in the province by 1850. Son Alexander continued modernisation: distillery, mill, power station. Today parts of 19th-century brick production and Shebekino's industrial landscape survive. Not a museum but industrial archaeology — red brick walls, chimneys, workers' quarters. Shebekino is archaeologically rich too: Krapivenskoye hillfort on the Koren and Dmitriyevskoye hillfort near Dobroye — monuments from Scythian and Old Russian periods. Combine with Shebekino's historic centre and chalk hills on the Koren (~15 km). Shebekino brick plant — Rebinder industrial heritage near the sugar works; shoot from the perimeter.
