Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos (Shirmanikha)
Shirmanikha lies about 24 km from central Vladimir towards Gorokhovets. Its landmark is the brick Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos, replacing earlier wooden temples; regional records say the stone building was built from 1845 and finished by 1856. The church was large for a village: three altars, summer and winter sections, bell tower and refectory. Today it is abandoned; dome and roof are gone, but wall volumes and silhouette still read against fields and the Ushcherka bend. The last 2–3 km are often dirt — best in dry weather and a vehicle with decent clearance. Stop at the wooden bridge over the Ushcherka for a typical Vladimir back-country view. Navigators may route past the village; use coordinates 56.12065, 40.645176 and church signs from the M7 highway. Shirmanikha is an “abandoned showcase” without tourist infrastructure: bring water, a torch, and do not enter collapsing vaults. Pair with other churches east of Vladimir if driving M7 towards Gorokhovets.
