An ancient hillfort on the high Sheloon bank at Soltsy — archaeological site without reconstructions, near the old town and Perebrody village.
Soltsy Fortress Hill
Solsky hillfort sits on the steep right bank of the Sheloon within Soltsy. Remains of an ancient fortified settlement: ramparts, ditches and outer bailey with pottery and daily objects from the 9th–13th centuries. Linked to early trade along the Sheloon and the Soltsy toponym. Today an open landscape without fairy-tale décor — history read in terrain and info boards where installed. Views over the river, bridge and lower town. Perebrody village with a church is nearby — combine hillfort, embankment and Perebrody in one day. An off-the-beaten-path alternative to Vitoslavlitsy for oblast archaeology, not open-air wooden architecture reconstruction.
How to get there
~1 km on foot from Soltsy centre following signs or the Sheloon embankment.
Best season
April–October; dry weather for rampart walk
