A pine wood near Sosnovka settlement — a green recreation area in Chernozem steppe popular with Tambov residents.
Sosnovka Forest Park
Sosnovka settlement in Tambovsky District is named for the surrounding pine wood — a rare forest massif in Chernozem steppe. The forest park on the edge has alleys, rest areas, gazebos and children's zones. The pine wood is not a reserve but mass recreation: families in summer, skiers and walkers in winter. Air is rich with resin; under the crowns it is cooler than open steppe in heat. A forest park route takes one to two hours; you can reach the edge and see dark pine against golden fields. A handy stop travelling north from Tambov. Combine Sosnovka with Umets chalk outcrop (~10 km) and Morozovka manor (~20 km) — green forest, white chalk and manor architecture in one day. Ticks are common from May to September — repellent and clothing checks after walking are essential.
