Staraya Russa Mineral Springs
Staraya Russa stands on the Polist River, known for mineral springs rich in salts. Used since medieval times; from the 19th century a spa with bath houses, wooden galleries and holiday villas. Springs, pavilions and a Polist promenade remain in the resort zone. Wells differ in composition; some operate within sanatorium complexes, others can be seen on walks through the grounds. The town is more than treatment: Dostoevsky House Museum, merchant-era streets and river bridges. Waters are a reason to visit, but allow time for the historic centre and Polist walks. On the road between Novgorod and Pskov — a 1–2 day stop, not a quick trip from Veliky Novgorod. Busy in summer; resort facilities follow institutional schedules in winter.
