Strugi Krasnye and Monastery

Strugi Krasnye stand on the Velikaya's left bank in the oblast north, near the Novgorod border. The town grew around a monastery and river crossing; today a district centre with station, hospital and typical housing. An active monastery — stone buildings, church, enclosure. Visit by cloister rules: modest dress, quiet. A bridge and embankment nearby where locals walk. Not on standard Pskov excursion lists though ~150 km from the oblast capital. Different geography here: northern river, forests, ties to Novgorod lands. Half a day for town and monastery. Combine with Porkhov or the Velikaya valley northward. Summer fishing and swimming in designated spots; winter ice used cautiously — strong current.

How to get there

~150 km north from Pskov by car; train to Strugi Krasnye station.

Best season

May–September; monastery services on holidays
