Surazh Desna Embankment

Surazh stands on the Iput 177 km west of Bryansk, 14 km from the Belarus border. A town since 1781; earlier names Surazhichi, Surazh-on-Iput. The embankment runs along the right-bank centre. The Iput is the oblast's second main waterway after the Desna; its basin drains to the Dnieper via the Sozh. Embankment Street with 19th–early 20th-century houses descends to the floodplain; landing stages and warehouses once stood here. Surazh keeps provincial scale: about 11,000 people, brick building stock, western Bryansk district centre. An embankment walk is quiet without tourist crowds. The low-traffic Unecha–Orsha line passes through; Surazh station marks arrival. From embankment to station is a short central walk. Include Surazh en route to the Belarus border or link Surazh–Klintsy–Novozybkov by rail.
