Tenisheva Estate (Talashkino)

Talashkino village in Smolensky District is known for Princess Maria Tenisheva's estate — patron, collector and founder of an art colony in the early 20th century. Malyutin, Korovin, Roerich and other Russian Art Nouveau masters worked here. The ensemble includes the manor, workshops, school and public buildings in Neo-Russian style: carved surrounds, ceramics, murals. Talashkino was called 'Russian Taormina' — art embedded in daily life. Some buildings are now a museum and creative centre with exhibitions, festivals and workshops. The village is lived-in: private homes and rural life, not a film set. Plan for daylight: carved facades and nearby Svetlitsa chapel are photogenic in soft light. Tours run on schedule — check the museum website. Combine Talashkino with Flenovo and Korovin's church — all three in one rural cluster ~25 km from Smolensk. Rural road — mud after rain. Respect private property; not all buildings are open.
