Trubny Canyon

Just beyond Baraban Cliff a right-bank tributary joins the Urup, cutting a short, relatively low but striking gorge — Trubny Canyon in local route notes. The name comes from the rounded, pipe-like channel in limestone; one geological reading is that the stream once ran in a cave whose roof collapsed, leaving an overhanging trough. A small waterfall opens the canyon; a taller drop of about twelve metres is noted at the end. The path sometimes follows a ledge above the water. The gorge belongs to the classic day loop from Ilyich: Urup gorge — Baraban Cliff — mushroom rocks — Trubny Canyon. This is quiet foothill nature in the krai’s east, not a ticketed Sochi canyon. Water rises quickly after rain — stay out of the narrows in flood.
