Tunguska Event Epicentre

Coordinates 60°54′07″N 101°55′40″E mark the presumed epicentre of the Tunguska event on 30 June 1908 — a powerful air burst over taiga near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River. The site lies about 60 km north and 20 km west of Vanavara in Evenkiysky District. Trees lay radially across roughly 2,150 km²; in a central zone (~8 km radius) the forest remained standing — the “glade” Kulik’s expeditions sought. There is no crater: most hypotheses place an atmospheric explosion several kilometres above ground. Today it is remote taiga with expedition markers and routes for organised groups, not an indoor museum. Access from Vanavara is by river and forest roads — with a guide or vetted operator; unprepared solo travel is risky. Combine with Vanavara’s museum and, where permitted, Lake Cheko to the north-west. Respect Evenki witness memory and do not photograph ritual sites without local consent.
