Lesnovsky Mud Volcano
Lesnovsky mud volcano lies near Lesnoye, Korsakovsky district, ~3 km from the Okhotsk shore in a tributary of the Ochepukha River. Several shallow salses ~5 m across. The 10 June 1986 eruption was studied by Sakhalin geologists; activity has since declined. Sakhalin has three major active mud-volcano centres; Lesnovsky is a fourth, now considered inactive. For geology buffs and quiet forest coast — pairs with Lake Izmenchivoye and Lesnoye, not standard tours.
How to get there
From Korsakov or Lesnoye via forest road toward Ochepukha tributary; final section on foot.
