A convent founded in 1814 on the Don bank north of Zadonsk, where the story of Tikhon of Zadonsk ends and the upper-Don road theme begins.
Bogoroditse-Tikhonovsky Monastery (Tyunino)
Tyunino is a village of the late 17th century on the left bank of the Don, founded by Fyodor Tyunin, a service man from Yelets, on lands taken from monastery holdings. In 1814 the Bogoroditse-Tikhonovsky convent was founded here — the village's main sight. Tyunino adjoins Zadonsk to the north, with the federal M-4 'Don' highway passing to the south. The monastery is named after Tikhon of Zadonsk — the saint whose relics rest in neighbouring Zadonsk; the cloister continues the town's pilgrimage theme. Today the convent works, is being rebuilt and welcomes visitors who observe its rules. For a traveller, Tyunino fits a single route with Zadonsk: a monastic day — two cloisters, the Don and a few unhurried kilometres between them.
How to get there
The village adjoins Zadonsk on the north: 2–3 km from Zadonsk's monastery ensemble along the M-4; buses to Zadonsk pass nearby.
Best season
Year-round; in summer the Don bank walk is pleasanter.
