Ust-Vym

At the confluence of the Vym and Vychegda once stood a sacred site of the Komi-Zyrian people. In 1380 Stephen of Perm arrived here and established the first Christian church on the hill. Ust-Vym later became an important religious and administrative centre. The St Michael the Archangel Monastery was revived in 1996; today the historic landscape combines monastery buildings, churches and views over the rivers.
