Usvyaty and Hills

Usvyaty stand in Usvyatsky District at the oblast's southern tip on the Belarus border. A hilly town among lakes and forests — one of the farthest district centres from Pskov. Church, monuments, wooden and brick housing. Surrounding lakes popular with local anglers; few tourists. Modest infrastructure: hotel, shops, bus station. Low hills give forest and water views. Landscape resembles neighbouring Belarus — gentle relief, fields, mixed forest. Include Usvyaty between Velikiye Luki, Nevel and the border. Half a day for town and nearest lake. Long drives from the oblast centre — a separate day or overnight trip, not a short excursion.
