A Podkamennaya Tunguska settlement — base for expeditions to the 1908 epicentre.
Vanavara
Vanavara is a village in Evenkiysky District on the Podkamennaya Tunguska at the Vanavarka mouth, ~700 km north-east of Krasnoyarsk. Coordinates 60°20′40″N 102°17′00″E; 2010 census population 3,153. Administrative centre of Tungusko-Chunsky District until 2004. ~60 km north lies the Tunguska epicentre zone; the village has a museum and logistics for organised taiga trips. Reach by flights from Krasnoyarsk and Evenkia routes, winter roads and river transport in navigation. A logistics hub for epicentre and Lake Cheko routes, not a standalone sight. Shops, hotels and museum in town; comms better than taiga but still northern conditions. Respect residents — do not photograph private life without asking.
