A sparsely populated village whose church retains fragments of wall paintings — rare among abandoned churches in the district.
Church of the Dormition (Volstvinovo)
Volstvinovo in Yuryev-Polsky District is nearly empty: a few houses, a cemetery and the Church of the Dormition on a hill. The temple is a “field” monument known mainly to local historians and ruin photographers — no museum sign, no permanent guard. The stone building went up in the 19th century replacing earlier churches; wall paintings once survived inside — unusual for abandoned rural churches in Vladimir Region. Today condition is poor: partial roof loss and moisture, but some paint fragments remain with careful viewing. Approach from Yuryev-Polsky or highway R74 via Simy: the village sits off main Golden Ring flows. Nearby abandoned Tenki has an even more ruined church — visit both in one trip. Do not expect a highway pull-off: the last kilometres are narrow village road. Wear mud boots, do not touch falling plaster or remove paint — unstaffed but protected architecture.
