Yama Spit

Yama Spit runs between the bay and open Okhotsk waters, about half an hour from central Magadan. Sand, pebbles, low grass — typical northern shore without amenities. Summer brings short walks and picnics; winter skiing on crust. Swimming is rare — water stays cold even in August — but shell collecting and surf-edge walks are local habits. Wind and tides shift the shore line — camp well back from the water and check tide tables before a long spit walk; low tide widens the spit, high tide may flood parts of the path. Parking at the access is limited; weekends draw Magadan families. Pack out your trash — standard practice on the northern coast. Works as an evening outing or first stop on an east-coast drive toward Ola and Pekarsky Cape.
