Yaropolets Chernyshyov Estate

In Yaropolets, Volokolamsk district, two neighbouring estates survive; this is the Chernyshyov counts’ majorat (not the Goncharov estate next door). In 1717 Peter’s associate G. P. Chernyshyov bought part of the village from heirs of hetman P. D. Doroshenko; Z. G. Chernyshyov shaped a grand residence in the 1760s. From 1774/1784 a majorat held the property in the family until 1917 (GRE summary). Per culture.ru the ensemble includes a ruined main house (literature cautiously links Vallin de la Mothe and P. R. Nikitin), stables and cattle yards with corner towers, cast-iron ceremonial gates and the twin-domed Kazan church-mausoleum (by 1798, commissioned by A. R. Chernyshyova; church authorship is debated — Bazhenov/circle/Blank as builder). In the formal park stands a granite obelisk marking Catherine II’s 1775 visit. Today the complex is in poor condition: a careful ruin-and-church visit, not the “Russian Versailles” of eighteenth-century praise. Do not confuse it with Yaropolets Goncharov (the Pushkin line) — a neighbour, but another estate.
