Zendikovo Estate

A few kilometres south of Kashira, in Zendikovo, stand ruins of a neoclassical (Palladian) estate on the Mutenka. Per culture.ru, remains include a two-storey house with mezzanine and a wing, a second wing, a service building and fragments of a lime park with cascade ponds; covered galleries are lost. Late-eighteenth-century founding is linked to Prince N. F. Baryatinsky; the family held it for about half a century. In the 1820s botany professor I. A. Dvigubsky (later rector of Moscow University) bought the estate — registered to his wife; after leaving the rectorship in 1833 he lived here and continued scholarly work. Later owners in local histories include P. M. Gorokhov and L. M. Ryadtseva. Popular etymologies of the village name diverge — a travel text should not lock them in as fact. Independent “thick” museum sources are scarce: rely on culture.ru and field/local notes. In the twentieth century the house served as a hostel, then fell into neglect. Exterior viewing only; the site is overgrown and collapses are possible.
