Zeya River Gorge

Above Zeysky Reservoir the Zeya runs in a narrow rocky valley — larch and cedar taiga on slopes, the channel narrowing, water churning on riffles. A typical northern Amur landscape. The riverside road links villages and logging sites; pull-offs reveal water and rock outcrops. Short stops for photos, a breath after long drives, a sense of the river before the dam. Harsher climate than southern Amur — cool nights even in summer, early autumn frosts. Dense taiga, July mosquitoes, bears — do not leave food by the car. Not a signposted tourist trail. Sparse lay-bys and villages; overnight in Zeya, Nizhne-Zeysk or a tent on a chosen safe spot. Natural when visiting the reservoir or driving west from Tynda — a scenic road where the river and quiet between ridges are the point.
