Zhostovo (tray museum)

The village of Zhostovo in Mytishchi urban district is the centre of Zhostovo metal-tray painting. In the early nineteenth century lacquer workshops appeared in Troitskaya volost villages; painted metal trays are linked to the Vishnyakov brothers’ workshop — factory materials cite “since 1825”. The main motif is a flower bouquet on a contrasting (often black) ground, with decorative generalisation akin to folk brush painting. The Zhostovo Decorative Painting Factory runs a tray museum and factory shop (Divnaya St., bldg 15). Tours usually cover craft history and production stages; workshops are by booking. This is a living factory, not a frozen local-history corner: hours follow the production schedule. Combine easily with Fedoskino: both crafts grew from the same Mytishchi lacquer world, but supports differ (papier-mâché vs metal). Check shop/museum hours on zhostovo.ru before you go.
