Barguzinsky Zapovednik
Barguzinsky Zapovednik was founded in 1916 on Baikal's east shore. Over 370,000 ha including the Barguzin Valley, Ulan-Barguzin Range and coast. Protects Baikal seal, sable, brown bear and rare birds. Mixed Baikal pine forest, steppe and mountains — one of few reserves reaching the lake. Most of the territory is restricted — strict protection; tours only with administration approval and guides. Not a walk-in park. HQ and museum in Ust-Barguzin village; approved educational routes start there. Key for Baikal ecosystem science. Allow time to arrange visits and learn rules — unauthorised entry is prohibited.
