Church of St John the Theologian (Bogoslovo)

Bogoslovo on the Popovka River lies 28 km south of Suzdal — a patriarchal estate mentioned since the 16th century. The stone Church of St John the Theologian with bell tower was built by parishioners in 1833 in classicist style; warm altars of the Intercession and St Nicholas were consecrated in 1876. The church is active: three altars, a 19th-century chapel and former stone fence form a regional heritage ensemble. It stands on high ground dominating low village housing — views over fields and the Popovka. Approach from Vladimir or Yuryev-Polsky: turn to Bogoslovo about 2 km before the village on the Yuryev road. Active-church hours apply (usually mornings); exterior photos with respect during services. Bogoslovo is an alternative to crowded central Suzdal — same Vladimir classicism in rural scale with a living parish.
