A former northern-coast garrison, the history of Skarvievo and a steep Arctic shore.

This abandoned military settlement is worth the detour when travelling along Rybachy's northern coast. A small fishing camp called Skarvievo, with three huts and four fish-salting cellars, existed here as early as the sixteenth century. The later garrison grew from tents into several apartment blocks, garages and a boiler house. After it closed at the end of the twentieth century, nature began to reclaim the buildings. The coast is steep, with reindeer lichen and rare local plants among the rocks.
