Old Barguzino

Old Barguzino lies in the wide Barguzin Valley at the foot of the Barguzin Range. Known since the 17th century as one of the first Russian settlements east of Baikal. Explorers and scientists started here — routes through the valley led to Baikal, the Barguzinsky Reserve and Transbaikal steppe. Old houses, a church and a local history museum remain. Fertile, open valley: fields and meadows in summer, harsh frost and snow in winter. The ridge skyline is visible from almost anywhere in the village. Not a hotel hub but a living village with a few guesthouses. A logical stop when travelling the valley toward Ust-Barguzin and Barguzin Bay. The museum and street walk show life on Baikal's east shore before modern roads.
